Chapter 17

If you ask me…I’m ready

It was fifteen minutes to ten when Ariyanna pulled up to Yasmien’s house and honked her horn. Moments later she emerged from her doorway and dashed to the car. She was finally returning to work since her bereavement in December.

“What’s up, Ari,” Yasmien sang happily.

“Hey sweetie,” Ariyanna replied. She hadn’t seen her in a week and admired her fresh, new micro braids. “You look good, boo.”

“Thanks. I had Denise hook up the braids last night.”

“She did a good job.”

Ariyanna pulled off down the road and the two began their normal gossip chatter. Between their giggles, Yasmien’s phone chimed in her jacket pocket and she checked her text messages. A wide grin spread across her face.

Ariyanna noticed her smile. “That must be a damn good text for you to be cheesing like that.”

“Yep, Kory keeps on sending these messages talking about how much he wanna see me again.”

“Kory?” Ariyanna asked, confused. “I thought you were talking to Calvin…and what do you mean by again?”

“I am talking to Calvin, but Kory is on me too. Shit, I need these niggas to be sponsors. I’m a single mother now,” Yasmien said matter-of-factly.

Ariyanna turned onto the expressway. “Wait a minute, isn’t Kory, Calvin’s best friend?”

“Yep,” Yasmien giggled, “and girl and he can’t get enough of me.”

“What the hell!” Ariyanna yelled. “So you’re messing with both of them?”

“Girl, I’m just having a little fun.”

Yasmien’s phone chimed again and she smiled reading another text.

“Damn, you really got him sprung, huh?”

“Naw, this one is from his girl, Anita. She kinda feeling me too.”

Ariyanna looked at Yasmien in shock. “Whoa, wait a minute. You mean you got his girl liking you too? Damn Yas!”

Yasmien grinned and handed Ariyanna her phone. She read the text.

Anita: DAMN I MISS UR SOFT ASS LIPS (THE ONES BETWEEN YA LEGS)…WHEN CAN I FEEL THEM AGAIN?

Ariyanna couldn’t believe her eyes. She thought she knew Yasmien but this right here she had no idea about. “Wow, again huh? When did that happen or did you just get up one day and boom, say I want to be bi-sexual?”

Yasmien shook her head and chuckled. “No, no, no. She isn’t the first chick that’s been feeling me. Before I married Robert we used to go to strip clubs together. I like the way I feel with women but I need that dick in my life too.”

Ariyanna’s jaw hit the floor. “I had no idea it was like that.” She turned back to face the road thinking that Yasmien was doing way too much. Her husband hadn’t even been gone a full six months. She didn’t want to judge her friend too much because Yasmien was obviously feeling good about all the attention she was getting.

“Why are you so surprised, Ari?”

“Um, well, because I am supposed to be your best friend. I mean, this doesn’t change anything with us but for me, this just came out of nowhere.” She looked at Yasmien and continued. “I just want you to remember that Roz and Rob need you more than Kory, Calvin, and Anita.
